* We have received reports that container ship, WAN HAI 176 experienced an engine breakdown in a position approximately 12 nautical miles off Marin County, California, shortly after departing from Oakland port, on 8 April 2022 destined for the Far East..

* It is reported that the vessel was unable to securely anchor in difficult weather conditions and was drifting towards the coast. Consequently, three tugs were deployed to assist the vessel but were unable to attach a tow line to the vessel in view of the weather and sea conditions.

* The vessel was able to restart its engine on 9 April and was then taken under tow by tug to a safe anchorage in San Francisco Bay.

* The vessel currently remains at anchor for inspection and possibly repairs.

* It is possible that General Average and/or Salvage may arise as a result of this casualty. Recovery issues may also arise in relation to any time and/or temperature sensitive cargo that may be affected by any prolonged delay in the resumption of the vessel's voyage.
* We recommend that you advise us if you are concerned with any cargo on board this vessel so that we may take steps to protect your interests.
