We have received the following updated information concerning the casualty to fully cellular container ship, MSC TRIESTE:

* The vessel is currently proceeding under tow towards Saldanha Bay, South Africa for repairs as a consequence of an incident affecting the vessel's engine.

* Repairs are anticipated to last approximately two weeks.

* It is reported that the vessel's auxiliary engines are functioning properly and that power is continuing to be supplied to temperature-controlled containers.

* Whilst there is currently no indication that shipowners intend to declare GA as a consequence of the casualty, it is apparent that the vessel's voyage will be prolonged as a consequence of this casualty. Consequently, Recovery issues may arise in respect of any delay in delivery of temperature sensitive and/or time sensitive cargo.

* We therefore recommend that you contact us urgently if you are concerned with any such cargo stowed on board the vessel so that we may take the appropriate precautions to protect your interests in this matter.

* It is reported that fully cellular container ship, MSC TRIESTE, went adrift off the south coast of South Africa on, or about, 11 November 2021, presumably as a result of an engine or mechanical failure on board the vessel.

* The vessel was later taken under tow by tug to Port Elizabeth, South Africa, where the vessel is currently at anchor for inspection.

* It is possible that General Average / Salvage and associated recovery issues may arise as a result of this casualty. It is also possible that the casualty to the vessel will result in a prolongation of the voyage which may adversely affect the vessel's sailing schedule and the delivery of any time-sensitive cargo.

* We therefore recommend that you contact us urgently if you are concerned with any cargo on board this vessel so that we can immediately start taking steps to protect your interests.
